Mattress disposal in London & the South East
Mattresses are the item everyone underestimates: awkward to move, charged separately at the tip, and one of the most fly-tipped things in Britain. Collection from the bedroom, with the disposal done properly, is what this service is.

- £2m insurance verified

- Free, with no obligation
- Collected from inside the property, not the kerb
- Two or three items together cost little more than one
- Stairs and awkward access are priced before booking, never on the day

Mattresses are bulky, awkward and charged individually at the tip. Most firms will take several at once for barely more than the price of one.
Every firm is checked against the Environment Agency register, insured to at least £2m, and asked for references we actually call. Your job goes to a maximum of three of them.

Estimate this jobHow mattress disposal works
A ten-minute collection with a regulated back end.
- 1Say the size and where it is
Single, double, king; which floor; anything awkward on the stairs. That is enough for a fixed price.
- 2Collected from the bedroom
Bagged if it is going down through the house, carried by two where the stairs demand it, gone in minutes.
- 3Separated, not landfilled
Mattress recycling strips the springs for steel and the fillings for recovery. It is why proper disposal carries a fee, and why the "cheap" man-with-a-van price sometimes ends in a layby.
- 4The paper trail exists
Registered carrier, receipt, done. Dumped mattresses get traced; this is what being on the right side of that looks like.
What a good firm does with a mattress
It is a commodity job. The routing is the difference.
No wrestling it downstairs yourself, no week where the neighbours watch it lean against the wall.
Frame, headboard, the old duvet bag: the van is there, the add-on cost is small. Ask for one number for the lot.
Springs to steel, fillings recovered. A licensed route costs them money, which is exactly what the too-cheap quote is skipping.
Charities need mattresses clean, unstained and with fire labels, and most used ones do not qualify. A firm that promises donation for every mattress is telling you a story.
CBDU number on request. Two minutes to check, and it moves the fly-tipping risk off you entirely.
The cheap quote has a destination
Mattresses are consistently among the most fly-tipped items in the country, and the economics explain it: proper recycling costs the collector real money per unit, so a price that undercuts everyone has usually removed the disposal step rather than the margin.
The law puts a duty on the householder to take reasonable steps to use an authorised carrier, and councils can issue fixed penalties where dumped waste traces back to a household that never checked. The check is the same two minutes it always is: ask for the CBDU number, search the public register, keep the receipt.
